Having gear that responds quickly is key to many shots... and sadly most digtal cameras are rather slow on the uptake.

This unannounced intrusion into a posed shot was one of those instances where the time between the thought "there might be a photo here" and the time the photo would be gone was a short as I or the camera could handle... if I hadn't been prefocused the moment would have been lost. One of those happy collisions between the planned idea and staying awake enough to let go of those preconceptions.
